A leader is someone who can inspire others to follow him. A leader is someone who has the ability to lead others. To be a leader, you must be trustworthy. They should be visionary and be able tell the difference between being tough and being kind. You must be organized and capable of organizing other people. You must also be willing to take risks, but not in a reckless manner. Look at George Washington’s leadership style. He had all the characteristics I have just mentioned.

I will first examine why Washington was considered trustworthy. George Washington was a moral and ethical person, refusing to be tempted. Because of these qualities, people were more likely to follow Washington than to be compelled to. Visionary leaders are able to see into the future, build an effective organization, attract others to achieve the same vision, so it becomes a collective vision. Washington was a visionary. He was able see the bigger picture and create a plan for action. It was his twentieth birthday and he began to travel for Boston on the twenty first. His character and ability to trust him were key factors in his selection. His ideas on British and colonial Relations were not only well-known, but were also shared by the delegates. They shared the same vision. Three of Washington’s key ideas as the General are highlighted below. First, Washington must win the conflict, regardless of how long it took. It was a war to gain independence and liberty. Third, it was an attempt to establish a republican government. The people would decide the form and ruling officers of this republic. Washington, more than anyone else of that time, understood all the implications of these ideas concerning his military leadership functions – strategy and operations as well as tactics. As the “General and Commander-in-Chief of the United Colonies,” he proved himself to be a genius at leadership.

George Washington was also considered a strong leader. His ability to rise from the ashes, i.e. Fort Necessity. He was also able, through hard work, to overcome many health problems including dysentery. Washington was a great statesman, which helped him gain political followers. Because he was able to gain the trust and respect of both politicians and troops, he was very persuasive. There are many qualities that make someone a great leader. George Washington’s style of military leadership is something we still admire today. My view is that a leader must remain relevant and appreciated for their character long after they have passed away.
